New academic opportunities from the UNCTAD Virtual Institute network

Vi core member, the University of Jordan invites theoretical and empirical research papers and/or country context case studies in preparation for its upcoming international conference, "Understanding Global Business Environment: Its Economic, Financial, Accounting, Marketing, and IT Dimensions."

The conference aims to provide participants with an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest thinking on contemporary international economic and business issues, with particular emphasis on the effects of globalization on the socio-cultural, economic and technological dimensions of the business environment.

Abstract/extended abstract submission from researchers and practitioners in the fields of international business including economics, trade, finance, accounting, IT, and Marketing may be submitted to wtochair.jordan@ju.edu.jo (cc: t.awad@ju.edu.jo) until June 20.

The University of Jordan – WTO-Chair programme will cover the cost of meals, hotels, local transportation and coffee breaks during the two days of the conference for participants from outside Jordan with accepted papers (one participant per paper).

Candidates from developing countries may participate in the 2013 GTAP 101 Course "Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium Modeling (CGE)" for a discounted fee of USD 400. The course is scheduled for October 14 - November 17.

The five-week online course emphasizes an intuitive and graphical treatment of economic theory in the CGE model, and provides structured experiences in manipulating and running the standard GTAP Model within the RunGTAP software environment. Topics covered in this course include: Database, Demand, Supply, Factor Markets, Trade and Taxes. The course culminates in a group research project which provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to carry out a model experiment and analyze its economy-wide effects.
