About conference

Indian economic policy making have undergone a drastic change ever since we initiated reforms in early 1990s aimed at promoting faster economic growth by reducing bottlenecks in the system. Reforms have reoriented economic and social policies in a market driven economic space with relatively 'less state'. Country achieved faster economic growth and economic transformation which was expected to "trickle down" with more inclusiveness in the growth process.

However, despite some notable progress, India continues to experience development with numerous dichotomies, and several key and 'old' challenges have remained unaddressed. These include, sluggishness in poverty reduction, increasing rich-poor divide, social inequities, pronounced social and economic exclusion and marginalisation of the disadvantaged, low agriculture growth, uncertain employability, and rising environmental degradation. To avoid such distortions in social and economic policy, different policy interventions were made in the form of social welfare measures to promote inclusive growth and its credentials by reshaping initiatives in the second decade of reforms.

The conference seeks to provide a platform to academicians, activists, practitioners and researchers from multiple disciplines to discuss and debate the role of economic policy reforms in achieving growth and its redistribution in terms of attaining social welfare.
