The Vi Seminar on Trade and Poverty, to be held in Geneva September 8-10, will present the findings of 11 papers examining the impact of trade on poverty in 10 developing and transition countries. The event is the culmination of a three-year Vi capacity-building project co-funded by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Government of Finland.
On the programme are top researchers in the field, including Dartmouth College's Nina Pavcnik and Vi online course co-author, Nicolás Depetris-Chauvin, along with project mentors, UNCTAD's Alessandro Nicita, Amelia Santos-Paulino, Marco Fugazza and International Trade Centre's Marion Jansen.
The event will include the launch of the publication "Trade policies, household welfare and poverty alleviation: Case studies from the Virtual Institute academic network," on 8 September, 14:30-16:30.

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has issued a call for papers in preparation for its fourth conference on Empirical Issues on International Trade and Finance, which will take place in New Delhi, December 18-19.

The 4th International SEARCH Conference offers an occasion for experts, academics and researchers alike to come together to consider pressing issues in an open forum; seeking to define questions, pursue answers, search for research synergies and more; to both reflect on the recent past, and look forward to the future; to exchange ideas and findings in a congenial atmosphere.
Our conference theme is 'Managing Crises and Risks in Communication'; a title that speaks of a twofold aim of promoting good communication and handling crises and risks with care. We hope to foster sophisticated dialogue regarding communication issues that arise from handling crises as well as risks. This requires recognizing that communication is an important feature when it can be turned into one-dimensional headlines or promoting stereotypes.
We welcome contributions related to the main theme, but which could also, among others, focus on:
Language and Linguistics
Public Relations and Marketing
Psychology and other disciplines dealing with the conference theme
Abstracts of proposed papers in the range of 200-300 words should be submitted by email to Dr. Nicole Yang at LaiFong.Yang@taylors.edu.my by 1 December 2014. The proposals should include the title, name, affiliation, email address and a short biographical note, about 60-80 words in length. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 15 January, 2015.
After the conference, selected papers will be published in our SEARCH Journal (Scopus) (March 2016 edition) after a rigorous peer-review process.

The Gothic Association of New Zealand and Australia (GANZA) welcomes proposals for its biennial conference, to be held at Novotel Darling Harbour, Sydney, on 21-22 January 2015.
Recent developments in Gothic Studies have highlighted the importance of 'space'. Here, 'space' is not only an abstract locus of meaning, but is also a loaded term that incorporates the interconnecting dimensions of cultural, geographical, and textual studies. As matters of spirituality and location, style and representation, chaos and order intersect, the Gothic continues to be moulded and re-moulded in relation to ever-changing understandings of both division and fusion. As such, the Gothic refuses to occupy a single space, and, as it interweaves and merges with multiple disciplines, readings, and interpretations, it also puts on new masks that change and mutate over time, societies, and cultures. The Gothic inhabits a space that is as liminal as it is demarcated, ambiguous as it is defined.
The aim of this conference is to revise, revisit, and question the meaning and impact of 'Gothic spaces' not only in aesthetic terms, but also in relation to their physical, psychological, and cultural scopes.
The conference will be interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Hybridity and trangression
Gender boundaries and definitions
Narratives of ab/normality
Digital Gothic: reality/virtuality
Sanity and insanity
Food and consumption
Gothic writing: canon and innovation
Gothic visuals and styles
Gothic forms (literature, film, poetry, comics etc.)
Theories of the Gothic
Proposals for panels are also welcome. Abstracts (250 words max) for 20 minute papers should be emailed to the attention of the conference organisers at: email@example.com.
