Fwd: Approaching deadline: Scholarships for Virtual Institute online course on trade and gender

Dear Vi friends,

We are at the mid-point of the application period for the Virtual Institute online course on trade and gender. Please take the time to gather the documentation required now.

The course targets academics (from universities and research centres), policymakers and representatives of civil society in developing and transition countries involved in research, teaching, policy formulation and implementation, or field work in the area of trade and gender. Qualified women candidates, as well as candidates from sub-Saharan Africa and the least developed countries, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The course will focus on analyzing the links between trade, gender and development to enhance the understanding of the interaction between trade and gender and their link to countries' inclusive development strategies. It will also provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for the design and implementation of gender-aware trade and development policies that reflect the needs and interests of their countries.

Top course graduates from academic institutions in the least developed and lower-income countries of sub-Saharan Africa, who hold a Master's degree in Economics and possess knowledge of statistics/econometrics and basics of the statistical software Stata, will be considered for participation in a follow-up five-day regional workshop on trade and gender. This workshop, building on the online course, will focus on the use of quantitative methods in trade and gender research. Successful participants of the workshop will subsequently be able to apply for financial support and mentoring in the development of papers on trade and gender issues of policy relevance to their countries.

Thanks to the support from the Government of Finland, the selected participants will be exempt from the fees associated with access to the course and the e-tutoring services provided. Participants will also receive the course materials on a DVD free-of-charge.

The deadline for applications is December 1.
